Donald E. Wight, 85, died October 6, 2020 at the Island Nursing Home, Deer Isle. He was born in Bangor, March 16, 1935 the son of Louise Hildred Wight.
Donald graduated from Clark High School, Penobscot class of 1953. He was a life-long resident of Penobscot. He served 4 years in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Wight’s Sawmill and Lumber in Blue Hill for 24 years. He enjoyed collecting old postcards of Penobscot, owning racehorses, hunting and had a lot of interest in the Penobscot Historical Society. Donald was the person who was able to buy and get the “little red schoolhouse; moved to its present location on the grounds of the historical society.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sandra Redman Wight; daughter, Sally Wight and husband Deane Mills of Winterport; son, Richard Donald Wight and partner Mary Fairbrother of Penobscot; grandsons, Zachary Wight and wife Mariah of Deer Isle and Jacob Wight of Blue Hill. He was predeceased by his mother; grandparents, Fred and Hattie Wight; sister, Eva Bowden; brother-in-law, Boyd Sonny Bowden.
A special thanks to all the caregivers at the Island Nursing Home.
At Donald’s request, there will be no services.
