Ruth M. (Sperrey) McLaughlin

Ruth McLaughlin, 82, passed away peacefully at home with her family on July 16, 2023.  She was born in Perham, the daughter of Clifford G. and Mary E. (Bennett) Sperrey.

Ruth graduated from Husson College in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education.  Following graduation, she taught business classes at Fort Fairfield High School for thirty years.  She married Gilbert W. McLaughlin and they spent over 56 wonderful years together.  She was an active member of the Fort Fairfield United Parish Church, and later of the First Congregational Church of Ellsworth.  She also enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, and spending time with loved ones and friends.

Ruth is survived by her beloved husband, Gilbert McLaughlin, daughter April Smith (Robert) of Clay, NY, son Lonzo McLaughlin (Kelly) of Landenberg, PA; four grandchildren, Abigail and Kyle McLaughlin of Landenberg, PA, Megan Smith of Clay, NY, and Mackenzie Smith of Tuscaloosa, AL; One sister, Alice Tarbox (Marvin) of Washburn, one brother, Lyman Sperrey of Perham, four Step-siblings, Linda Gooch, Marsha Droese (Robert), Basil Ward (Demaris), and Dorothy McCabe (Joe), along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be private.  Gifts in Ruth’s memory can be made to the First Congregational Church of Ellsworth, P.O. Box 12 or to your favorite charity.  Condolences may be expressed www.acadiacremation.com.
