Kathryn Rotz Burnett

Kathryn Rotz Burnett

On December 3, 2023, Kathy Renee Rotz Burnett passed away at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, ME from an infection that was more powerful than she could overcome.  Kathy was born on December 22, 1974, in Ellsworth, ME, the second child of Brenda and Joseph Rotz.

Kathy was raised in Winter Harbor, graduating in 1993 from Sumner High School as salutatorian.  She then attended UMO majoring in Criminal Psychology.  Her and her husband Rob made their home in Franklin where they raised two sons that they were incredibly proud of.  She worked in many fields being dedicated, dependable and taking all responsibilities very seriously.

Kathy was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend to many.  Her cooking was unsurpassed (especially her cheesecake) and the ceramic pieces she made in her younger years are beautiful.  Kathy’s passionate love of children was counted on by many, especially those in need of a free babysitter.  Her unique sense of humor and exaggerated imitations could make anyone show some sort of delight.  Lifting spirits was but one of her many attributes and she made it easy to love her.

Kathy was a saver of lives.  While working as a lifeguard in her teenage years four people were saved.  While she and her children were visiting public beaches two more were able to return home with their loved ones due to her efforts.  Working as a waitress, Kathy performed the Heimlich maneuver, saving two more lives.  Saving lives did not end with her passing as she was an organ donor and has gone on to save several more lives.

Kathy was predeceased by her beloved son, Justin (whom she is most assuredly still hugging); father, Joseph W. Rotz; grandparents Winfield & Margaret Lovejoy (lovingly known as Pop & Gram); Joseph & Oleta Rotz; Cleo James (Nanny); Harry & Edith Northup; brother-in-law Russell and his son (little) Russell L. Burnett.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 27 years, Robert D. Burnett IV; son, Nathan R. Burnett, who she was immensely proud of, Maui, HI; mother & stepfather Brenda & A. Stewart Northup, Sterling, AK; sister Jennifer Rotz & Jeff Grant; aunt Nancy McKean; cousins Sheryl (Jim) Smith; Walter (Lori) Bell; mother-in-law Heidi Burnett; father-in-law Robert (Mary) Burnett III, Kissimmee, FL; special friend and confidant Donna Young as well as her extended family in Wichita Falls, TX, and too many friends to mention.

Kathy was truly an incredible person whose faith may have been the only thing greater than her wonderful presence as she helped guide many souls towards the love of God. In honor of Kathy, please do an act of kindness and pay it forward when you can. Do not wait to tell those you love how much they mean to you as life is much too short.

Family and friends will gather at a later date to celebrate Kathy’s life.

She was the most loyal friend a woman could have and I miss her terribly. From the bottom of my heart, I tried to be there for her forever. She was a spitfire, a pain in my ass, but my absolute best friend on the planet, I love you, give Justin a hug for me.
