Ellsworth
Bethany (Betty) Austin, 89, passed away peacefully at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital, after a brief illness, on April 3, 2021, with her children by her side. Betty was born August 14, 1931, at her parent’s home in Franklin, Maine.
Betty graduated from Lee Academy in 1948. She was very proud of her alma mater and attended the reunions each summer.
After retirement Betty moved to her family camp on Donnell Pond in Franklin. It was built for her by her father. She loved her camp and was usually seen sitting on the deck, talking to the locals and her many cousins that lived across the pond. Her favorite pastime was knitting while watching the Red Sox. She also loved cooking and gathering with family during the holidays. Ellsworth High School basketball games brought her great joy as she watched her son, Peter, coach. While her husband was alive, they would winter in Florida. After his passing she spent many winters in Hawaii with her cousin Bev.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, H Dana Austin Jr, her parents Harvard (Kelly) and Mae DeBeck, and brother Robert DeBeck. She is survived by her four beloved children, Harvard Austin and wife Dodi; Susan and husband Bryon Saunders; Rebecca and her husband Bayley Grant; Peter Austin and wife Teresa. She had eight grandchildren: Nichole Wunder, Dana Austin, Renee Worcester, Rebecca Archer, Elizabeth Getchell, Bethany Grant, Amy Pooler and Andrew Austin. She also had seven great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all.
A celebration of life is planned at Donnell Pond on August 14, 2021, on what would have been her 90th birthday.
Arrangements by Acadia Burial and Cremation Direct, 248 State St. Ellsworth.
